The application of reactors in frequency converters.
With the rapid development of power electronics technology, AC variable frequency speed regulation has become mainstream in power drives since the 1990s, and its application range is increasingly broad. However, due to the use of inverters in various electrical environments, if appropriate protective measures are not taken, it will affect the stability and reliability of the inverter's operation. Practice has proven that,reactorsand proper matching with inverters can effectively prevent overvoltage and surge current caused by AC line switching operations from impacting them. At the same time, it can also reduce the harmonics generated by the inverter, which pollutes the power grid and can improve the power factor of the inverter.
There are three types of reactors used with inverters:
1. Input reactor
Also known as input reactor or power coordination reactor, it can limit the current impact caused by sudden changes in grid voltage and operating overvoltage, effectively protecting the inverter; it can prevent interference from the power grid and reduce the harmonic current generated by the rectifier unit, improving its power factor.
2. DC reactor
The DC reactor is connected between the DC rectification stage and the inverter stage of the variable frequency system. The DC reactor can stabilize the operation of the inverter stage and improve the power factor of the inverter. In variable frequency systems with a DC stage, connecting a DC reactor after the rectifier can effectively improve the power factor, and with proper matching, the power factor can be increased to 0.95. In addition, the DC reactor can stabilize the operation of the inverter and limit short-circuit current.
3. Output reactor
The output reactor should be added when the cable length from the inverter output to the motor exceeds the product specification value, to compensate for the coupling capacitance charging and discharging effects during the operation of the long cable to avoid inverter overcurrent. It can also suppress the harmonics output by the inverter, reducing the noise of the inverter. Some manufacturers also provide allowable lengths for connecting motors with and without output reactors.
