The European-style substation was first introduced to China as a substation technology from Europe, also known as the YBW-12 series prefabricated substations. The YBW-12 series prefabricated substation combines high-voltage electrical equipment, transformers, low-voltage electrical equipment, etc., into a compact complete distribution device, with the box material made of channel steel, aluminum alloy, and flame-retardant composite materials.

The YBW-12 series prefabricated substation is suitable for outdoor prefabricated substation equipment that is publicly accessible, with a primary side AC rated voltage of 12kV, a maximum transformer capacity of 1600kVA, and a working frequency not exceeding 50Hz. This substation is connected externally via cables and can be operated from either its interior or exterior. It is used in urban high-rise buildings, urban and rural constructions, residential communities, high-tech development zones, small and medium-sized factories, mining oil fields, and temporary construction sites, serving to receive and distribute electrical energy in the power distribution system.

The YBW-12 series prefabricated substation complies with the standards IEC1330:1995 "High Voltage/Low Voltage Prefabricated Substations" and GB/T17467-1998 "High Voltage/Low Voltage Prefabricated Substations."
